Quinn vs Cornerstone

What is the difference between Quinn and Cornerstone?

Cornerstone is a broad enterprise learning and talent platform covering learning, performance, succession, and recruiting. Quinn is a training platform for frontline, field, and trades teams, with courses built from your own SOPs and delivered by text. They can also work together: Quinn courses run inside Cornerstone as SCORM.

Cornerstone OnDemand is one of the biggest names in enterprise learning. If you're at a larger company, especially one that's been through an acquisition, there's a good chance you already have it.

Companies usually evaluate Quinn alongside Cornerstone in one of two ways:

  • "We're keeping Cornerstone. Can Quinn work inside it?" Yes. Compatible Quinn courses export as SCORM or cmi5 (see running Quinn courses inside your LMS).
  • They are planning a future migration. Quinn can be introduced while the current Cornerstone contract remains in place.

Cornerstone is a broad enterprise learning and talent platform. For some frontline teams, that breadth may be more than they need while still leaving company-specific content creation to internal staff.

Where Cornerstone is strong

  • Suite breadth. If you want learning, performance reviews, succession planning, and recruiting in one system, Cornerstone does that.
  • Feature depth. Almost anything an LMS can do, Cornerstone can do.
  • Stability and brand. Procurement and IT teams are comfortable with it.
  • Mature compliance reporting.

If you're a large enterprise with a full L&D team and you need the whole talent suite, Cornerstone may be the right choice.

Where frontline teams struggle

  • The learner experience wasn't built for deskless workers. Techs and crew members who never sit at a computer rarely log into an enterprise LMS. Public reviews on G2 and Capterra frequently mention a steep learning curve and a mobile experience that trails desktop.
  • Someone has to build the content. Cornerstone gives you the platform. Your team still has to produce the courses.
  • It can be more system than you need. Lots of features, and still no easy way to turn a 40-page SOP into training a new tech will finish.

Using Quinn with Cornerstone

  1. Keep Cornerstone, add Quinn content. Build courses in Quinn and upload them to Cornerstone as SCORM. Learners launch them from Cornerstone, completions are recorded there, and when you update a course in Quinn, the connected package picks up the change without a re-upload.
  2. Move frontline training to Quinn. Keep Cornerstone for corporate and HR courses, and run frontline onboarding, technical, and safety training in Quinn, with roster sync from your HRIS and delivery by text.
  3. Migrate over time. Start with the first option while your Cornerstone contract runs, then move when it's up.

Questions to ask in your evaluation

  • “What's our all-in first-year cost, including license, implementation, content, and admin time?”
  • “What percentage of our frontline employees log into our LMS in a given month?”
  • “Who on our team will build and update technical content, and how long does one course take today?”
