Quinn vs Interplay Learning

What is the difference between Quinn and Interplay Learning?

Interplay primarily offers a prebuilt skilled-trades training library and simulations. Quinn focuses on training built from a company's own equipment, procedures, and customer scenarios. Interplay is often strongest for standardized fundamentals and certification preparation; Quinn is designed for company-specific readiness and practice.

If you run training for an HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or mechanical company, you've probably seen Interplay Learning. It's one of the best-known names in skilled-trades e-learning and is often one of the first systems a training manager evaluates.

Both Quinn and Interplay are trying to get technicians productive faster with fewer ride-alongs. They go about it in very different ways.

The short version: Interplay sells you a library. Quinn builds your library.

Where Interplay is strong

We'd rather be honest than win on a technicality:

  • Library depth. Hundreds of hours of professionally produced trade content. If you need standard HVAC fundamentals tomorrow, it's there tomorrow.
  • Simulation polish. Their 3D and VR simulations look great, especially for spatial, hands-on learning.
  • Certification prep. EPA 608 prep and NATE-aligned content matter, and Interplay does them well.
  • Brand recognition. They've been doing this since 2016, and trade associations know them.

If your main need is off-the-shelf fundamentals and certification prep for apprentices, Interplay may be the right fit.

When Quinn may be the better fit

  1. Your training needs to reflect your operation. A standardized library cannot account for every company's equipment mix, procedures, diagnostic practices, and job environment. Quinn is designed to build around those differences.
  2. You need advanced or company-specific material. Chillers, controls, unusual equipment, and the diagnostic practices of your most experienced technicians may fall outside a standardized curriculum.
  3. You need training tied to a required program. Quinn can organize company-specific content into assigned programs with reminders and reporting rather than leaving it as an optional resource.
  4. Customer conversations matter. Quinn includes roleplay for explaining repairs, presenting options, and responding to customer concerns. Compare the current roleplay and soft-skills capabilities of each product during your evaluation.

How Quinn is different

  • Your equipment, your procedures. Give Quinn a service manual, a photo of the unit you actually install, or a video of your best tech, and we'll turn it into an interactive course with a 3D simulation of that equipment. "Five things on this machine: two of them will hurt you, three will hurt the machine" is built from your unit, not a stock model.
  • Your senior techs' knowledge, captured. The diagnostic shortcuts, customer scripts, and equipment quirks your best people have picked up over 20 years aren't in any library. Quinn is built to capture them.
  • Practice for the conversation, not just the repair. AI voice roleplays let techs practice explaining a repair, presenting options, and handling "why is it so expensive?", all scored against your process.
  • Built for you. Our done-with-you team builds courses from whatever you send, usually within 72 hours, so your training manager isn't stuck assembling learning paths.
  • Delivered by text. No app and no login to forget. Assignments, reminders, and completion tracking run automatically, and they sync with your HR system (ADP, UKG, Paylocity, and 70+ more).

Can you use both?

Yes, and some of our partners do. A common setup:

Interplay

Foundational technical content and EPA 608 / NATE prep in the first months.

Quinn

Everything specific to your company: onboarding, your equipment and procedures, safety in your environment, customer communication, and advanced skills.

If you're paying for Interplay seats that aren't being used, Quinn's 1,100+ course off-the-shelf library can often cover the fundamentals as well, so you're down to one system instead of two.

Questions to ask in your evaluation

  • “Can the training show our equipment, our trucks, and our customer scenarios? What do I have to provide, and how long does it take?”
  • “What happens after year one of the apprenticeship? What do my experienced techs train on?”
  • “How do my techs practice talking to customers?”
  • “Who builds and updates the content when our procedures change?”
