Quinn vs the LMS built into your HRIS

Do you need Quinn if your HRIS already includes learning?

Maybe. An HRIS learning module may be sufficient for assigning and documenting standardized HR courses. Quinn is designed for company-specific frontline training, interactive practice, and mobile delivery. The systems can also work together through roster sync, course export, or a separately configured completion workflow.

Most HR systems now come with training built in: UKG Pro Learning, Paylocity's learning features, ADP's learning add-ons, Workday Learning. So a fair question comes up in almost every evaluation.

Short answer: HRIS learning modules are often strongest at assigning and documenting standardized training. Quinn is built to develop job-specific skills and readiness. Some companies need both; others may be well served by their HRIS alone.

What HRIS learning modules do well

  • Required HR courses. Harassment prevention, cybersecurity, code of conduct. Assign them to everyone, track completion, done.
  • One system of record. Completions sit next to employee records, which HR and auditors like.
  • Already paid for, or close to it. No new vendor and no new procurement.

If that's all you need, your HRIS may be enough.

Where they fall short for field teams

Here are the limitations teams should evaluate.

  • The content may be generic. Standard HR and compliance courses may not reflect a company's equipment, procedures, or customer environment. Completion alone does not demonstrate that a learner can perform the work.
  • They weren't built for how your techs actually work. How to service your equipment, follow your install checklist, use your ServiceTitan setup, or talk to your customers doesn't fit in a slide-deck-and-quiz format.
  • Building custom material can require significant administration. Evaluate how many steps it takes to create, update, assign, and report on a company-specific course.
  • Techs don't log in. Field employees rarely use the HR portal except to check a paystub. Training that requires them to log in there gets done at the last minute, or not at all.
  • Training can become fragmented across systems. Without a clear system of record and content strategy, onboarding, technical training, and compliance records may live in different places.

How Quinn works alongside your HRIS

Quinn doesn't replace your HRIS. It plugs into it:

  1. Your HRIS decides who gets trained. Quinn syncs employees, roles, departments, and locations from UKG, ADP, Paylocity, Workday, and 70+ other systems. New hires are enrolled automatically, and people who leave are removed.
  2. Quinn handles the training. Courses are built from your SOPs, with 3D equipment simulations and AI roleplays, delivered by text so techs actually open them.
  3. Completions can go back to your HRIS. Run Quinn courses inside your HRIS learning module as SCORM or xAPI, or send completion events through webhooks, so HR keeps its system of record.
